In November, Eyestorm donated a Sir Peter Blake print to CHASE, a charity that helps children with life limited disabilities who are not expected to reach their 19th birthday.

The charity, in its eigth year, holds a yearly auction of artwork to raise money for the children.

The event is sponsored by Savills and Laurent Perrier and about 350 works by 70 contemporary artists are displayed. In the past, CHASE have auctionned works by Paula Rego, Mary Fedden, Peter Blake, Antony Dufort and many more.

This year, ‘Visa’, a limited edition screenprint by Sir Peter Blake, reached a whopping £2800 at the charity auction, contributing to the thousands of pounds made this year for the charity.

Since the late 1950’s Sir Peter Blake has been regarded as one of the best known British Pop Artists. His images arose from a love affair with the icons and ephemera of popular culture, such as adverts, music hall entertainment and wrestlers, coupled with brilliant naturalistic techniques such as collage, drawing and painting. It is this unique approach that has won him international fame.

When Sir Peter Blake won a Leverhulm scholarship in 1956, he decided to spend the £500 prize money on travel in Europe researching art. He travelled through Holland, Belgium, France, Italy and Spain collecting matchboxes, cigarette packages and posters. He then went on to making collages of the memorabilia, which hence turned into screenprints of objects found on his travels. This lead to the creation of the series, Fag Packets.

At Eyestorm, we have ‘Visa’ available to buy for £1500 ex vat, much less than it went for at auction. We only have a few of these prints left, so if you are interested in buying one, now is the time to do so.
